Title: Resource Management in Scientific Research at Agilent – priorities, implementation, benefits

Abstract:
After implementation of an enterprise-wide project management system for R&D, Agilent realized the primary benefit was less to manage assignments and tasks, and more to plan, allocate, and manage global resources to deliver products and services that provide critical customer benefits.  Starting with a focus on strategic intent, we chose to prioritize the right projects and programs, create objective criteria for approval, and establish standards for key deliverables.  We selected a system that would allow us to view global resource availability, expertise, and allocations throughout the entire project lifecycle, and measure key performance factors to establish a baseline for continuous improvement.
